When I first heard of the wild ponies on Assateague Island, I had this notion that there would be galloping horses on the beach running through the waves. While the reality, is just as aww inspiring the vision was far from true. While chasing nature through the lens, I have learned that seeing uncaged wildlife, is far more aww inspiring then the chasing the iconic image.
The truth of the track to see the wild ponies is filled with a trail through the marshland, hungry mosquitoes and a heard of wild ponies. If you plan to visit Assateague, be prepared for mosquitoes that are in my opinion already immune to bug repellant and will seek your veins through your clothing. It was the beginning of may when I hiked the trails of Assateague and chose to wear long sleeves. Seeing the wild ponies graze in the marsh land was worth it.
