Astrophotography has been very challenging for me. Both with trying to combat light pollution and weather. Spending hours at night to capture one image and you wont know how it turned out until after post processing. It is amazing that you can take hundreds of short time lapse photos and stack them to get an image that shows things you would be able to see with your eyes. The above pictures were taking with a 85mm to 300mm Cannon Lens and Cannon Rebel T7. What I can tell you is, you can take some amazing shots with any camera set up. You don’t need the most expensive camera and lens to capture the majesty in the night sky.

Capturing the Constellation Orion and the Orion Nebula brought back memories of my first attempt at astrophotography. I took a graphic communication class in high school and attempted to take pictures of the night sky with a 35 mm camera. I used a shutter cable and tripod and pointed the camera at Orion’s belt. I remember getting pictures of the stars but no other detail was prevalent. Now with the concept stacking, which existed then but was far from my skill level, I have captured the Orion Nebula.

Another great object to capture in the night sky is the moon. Also a nice one for beginners but also just amazing. The way the craters are enhanced with the shadows on the crescent moon are just phenomenal. I am far from capturing deep sky objects but I am having fun learning the constellations and how to find some of these deep sky objects through my camera.
